Psalms Series Pt 1 "What's In A Name?"

Jan 21, 2026    Isaiah Wilson

In this message from Psalm 20, we explore one of the most serious questions in Scripture: Do you really know God's name? Throughout the Bible, God reveals Himself through multiple names—Jireh (The Lord Will Provide), Rapha (The Lord Who Heals), Shalom (The Lord is Peace), and more. Each name is a window into His character, showing us exactly who He is and what we can trust Him for. But all of these names find their fullness in one ultimate name—YAHWEH, the great "I AM WHO I AM." When God says "I AM," He's declaring that He is whatever you need Him to be, whenever you need it.

The psalmist presents us with a fundamental choice: "Some trust in chariots and some in horses, but we trust in the name of the LORD our God" (Psalm 20:7). What are you trusting in today? Your education, your bank account, your health, your relationships? Those are all modern-day "chariots"—good things that make terrible gods. Everything we trust apart from God will eventually collapse, but those who trust in His name will rise and stand firm. And ultimately, every name of God points us to Jesus—the name above every name—who is Yahweh in the flesh, our Provider, Healer, Peace, Victory, Shepherd, and Savior. If you've been building your life on chariots, it's time to start calling on the Name.
