The Voice and the Lamb

Oct 6, 2026  •  Isaiah Wilson

A delegation from Jerusalem walks out to the Jordan with one question for John the Baptist: "Who are you?" John answers by saying who he is not. He is not the Christ. He is not Elijah. He is not the Prophet. He is a voice, and a voice exists to carry a Word that belongs to Someone else.

In this session of our verse-by-verse study of the Gospel of John, we walk through John 1:19-34. We look at why John said no when they asked if he was Elijah, even though Jesus later said John was the Elijah who was to come. We see what Isaiah 40 meant by a road prepared for the LORD himself. Then we hear John point at a man walking toward him and say, "Look, the Lamb of God, who takes away the sin of the world."

We also look at what John saw when the Spirit came down and rested on Jesus, why that does not mean Jesus became the Son of God at His baptism, and what it means that Jesus is the One who baptizes with the Holy Spirit. There is also a short note on a difference you may find between Bibles in verse 34.

Every session in this series serves one verse, John 20:31: "these are written so that you may believe that Jesus is the Christ, the Son of God, and that by believing you may have life in His name." See who Jesus really is, then receive life through Him.
