The Word Became Flesh
John 1:14 says the Word became flesh and made His dwelling among us. In this session we study John 1:14-18, where the prologue moves from who the Word is to what He did. Long before John wrote, Moses asked God, "Show me Your glory," and was told no one can see God's face and live. John looks back on that moment and says, "We have seen His glory." We follow that thread from Exodus 33 and 34 into John 1 and look at what it means that the Word pitched His tent among us.
Along the way we cover why "only begotten" does not mean Jesus was created, how "grace and truth" echoes what God said about Himself at Sinai, why the law came through Moses while grace and truth came through Jesus Christ, and how John 1:18 answers the question of who people saw in the Old Testament when they saw God. We also take a look at a manuscript difference in verse 18 and why it does not change what we believe about Jesus.
