Hebrews Pt 6 The Word That Gives Us Rest

Aug 6, 2025    Isaiah Wilson

In this message from our Hebrews series, we explore Hebrews 4:1-13 and discover the truth about God's rest that remains available to us today. Many people, like the Israelites in the wilderness, hear God's promises but miss out on His rest because they fail to combine what they hear with faith. This isn't about physical rest or even just entering the Promised Land, but about entering into the deep spiritual rest that God has been offering since creation itself. The passage reveals a beautiful paradox: we must "strive to enter that rest," which means being eagerly intentional about trusting God rather than trying to earn our way into His favor through our own efforts.

The key to understanding this passage lies in verses 12-13, where we learn that God's Word is living and active, doing the work in us that we cannot do ourselves. The Word of God acts like a skilled surgeon, exposing what keeps us from rest so that healing can begin. We discover that Joshua's rest, though good, was temporary and limited, but Jesus offers us something infinitely better. His rest is based not on our performance but on His finished work, and it can never be taken away. This rest is available today for anyone willing to stop hiding, be honest before God, and let His Word transform their heart. Jesus truly is better than anything we could ask or imagine.
